Help & Info about Safari for mac

  • Is Safari available for Windows?

Only Safari 5 is available for Windows, and it is not supported by Apple. Recent versions of the browser do not support Windows.
  • Can Safari automatically translate web pages?

Yes, with functionality depending on the platform. On Mac OS, this is automatically offered to the user. On the iPhone, select Share on the bottom-side menu, and then select Bing Translate. This will automatically translate the current web page using Bing.
  • What is the Reading List?

The Reading List is a special set of bookmarks. It is used to store pages that you want to read or have access to later. It is notable in that if you are signed into iCloud via the browser, then your Reading List will be synced to any device that is also signed into iCloud, including iPods, iPads, iPhones and desktop computers.
  • Is Safari faster than Google Chrome?

The answer to this question depends on platform and operating conditions. On Mac OS it is widely agreed that Safari is the faster of the two browsers, while on the iPhone it is more comparable. On Windows, Chrome is much faster, as the latest versions of Apple's web browser are not available for that operating system.
  • How do I clear the cache?

On Mac, while the browser is running, click Safari in the top left hand corner. Then select Preferences, followed by Privacy. You can then press "Remove All Data..." to totally empty your cache. On the iPhone, open Settings and find the browser there. Then, select "Clear History and Website Data".
  • How do I block or not block pop-ups?

As above, enter the Preferences screen. Click Security, then check or uncheck "Block pop-up windows". Similarly, you can enable or disable pop-ups for Safari on the iPhone using the app's Settings menu.
  • What is Do Not Track?

On iOS devices using Safari, you can enable Do Not Track to prevent websites from tracking, among other metrics, the web page that linked you to that website, and what links you click from there. This is not foolproof, as Do Not Track is simply a request sent by the browser. It can be enabled by via the browser's Settings menu.
  • Is Safari faster than Firefox?

Tests by various research groups and reviewers indicate that Safari is faster when loading simpler web pages, at least as of this writing, but Firefox performs better both in speed and accuracy when rendering advanced HTML5 webpages.
  • How do I delete my history?

The same steps used to clear your cache, in the question above, also remove all of your browsing history by default. You may remove individual history items on an iOS device by entering Bookmarks, then History, then swiping left on an entry. On Mac OS, simply click History on the top menu bar to access your options.
  • How do I zoom in or out?

On Mac OS, press Apple and + or -. On iOS, move two fingers in opposite directions.
